Asteroid Mercedes (1136), named after the Sister-in-law of the discoverer,  was discovered by the Spanish astronomer Josep Comas i Solà on October 30, 1929.  Josep discovered 11 asteroids and also was the discoverer of periodic comet 32P/Comas Solà and co-discoverer of comet C/1925 F1.
