321 Florentina

Main Belt Asteroid

Published - Tzec Maun Foundation - http://blog.tzecmaun.org/?p=992

20100321 - Sky conditions were not very favorable, so it was decided that photometry would performed on asteroid 321 Florentina since it was in a favorable position and would be a good target.  A total of 84 - 1-minute exposures were collected of this object over a period of nearly two hours.  More data is needed (and will soon be collected) to produce a better lightcurve of 321 Florentina.  The photometry results from data collected at MPC H68 are below.  More data will be added to this lightcurve.  See image below.

MORE DATA COLLECTED

After adding data collected from a 0.35-m Mak-Newt at observatory H10 (Tzec Maun Observatory) along with data from H68 (Red Barn Observatory) the lightcurve was a bit more properly formed compared to the image above.  Still, a bit more data is needed from a few more nights to really produce the accurate curve needed.  See image below.

Final Results - 321 Florentina, according to my calculations, has a rotational period of 2.4 ± 0.2 hours.  Published work found on-line shows that others have found that this asteroid has a period of around 2.6 hours, so my results are very close to others.  321 has a H value of 10.4 placing this object in the 20km - 50km range which shows that this object must be of a monolithic structure - that is, solid instead of a RPA.
